Excess speed - Main Road

Good afternoon, 

In the past, I have always focused my attention on the Main Road in Burton Pidsea with regard to speeding motorists, observing the traffic coming from the national speed limit into the village from the direction of Roos, and while many many vehicles do not slow in time for the 30 sign, the natural geography of the road forces them to slow before they reach the populated areas. 

Having listened to your concerns and taken note of the registration numbers of cars you have particularly noticed that appear to be speeding, today I spent around 90 minutes (around 15:30 to 17:00) opposite the petrol station on Main Road, checking the speed of vehicles coming from both directions. 

Perhaps typically, none of the vehicles matching the numbers you have reported came through. However, I did record 6 vehicles travelling in excess of the 30mph limit, and I am afraid to report that all 6 were residents of Burton Pidsea. For the purposes of prosecution it is required that a Constable in uniform perceives the speed of a vehicle to be in excess of the marked limit, before even aiming the laser. However, I checked nearly every single vehicle coming through during that time, and all bar the 6 previously mentioned were travelling at, or below the 30mph limit. 

Of course it is entirely possible that drivers had been alerted of my presence via social media, and some may actually have observed me in the distance. However, policy is that we are highly visible and do not “hide,” as part of the “mission” is to slow people down, and not - as many surmise - to generate revenue. 

As I am sure you are all aware, we do have an extensive area to cover, an area which includes many villages with similar complaints and concerns and cannot be in Burton Pidsea at the right time, all the time.
